Law minister to send opinion on extension of Khaleda Zia’s sentence suspension today

Law Minister Anisul Huq will send his opinion to the home ministry today determining the fate of continuation of suspension of sentence to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in the graft cases.

A Dhaka court landed Khaleda Zia in jail after sentencing her to imprisonment for 5 years in Zia Orphanage graft case on February 8, 2018.

In the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, on March 25, 2020, the government released her halting sentence in exercise of its executive authority under Section 401 (1) of the Criminal Code of Procedure.

Since then, the government keeps extending the tenure of suspension upon expiry.
